The opposite side of the boards has the normal shape which can be used with the stock tacoma bed should the user decide to remove bed stiffeners.

But... Do you need bed stiffeners? Probably Not
My '09 Tacoma has over 330k miles and lots of fast, hard off-road driving with lots of weight in the bed and a 250lb SnugTop shell.
The bed has held up well without bed stiffeners. As someone with a mechanical and automotive engineering background, I believe that they're a waste of money for 99% of Tacoma owners. Toyota didn't just forget to make the bed stiff enough, they designed it to have a certain amount of flex when load is applied.
